Artist statement on Elephant Study:
"I had been thinking about ivory. To meditate on ivory and learn more about elephants- I made this small painting of a huge subject, toned in degrees of gray against a white background looking at the viewer. For years and continuing until today elephants are killed for their ivory tusks which are valued in certain cultures. In Hindu and Buddhist religions elephants represent loyalty, wisdom and power. A mountain that rises from the east over the Missoula Valley is named Jumbo after the circus elephant-I was thinking all of these thoughts as I drew the Elephant Study”

Elephant Study was completed in pencil, watercolor and acrylic on #300 Arches watercolor paper in 2018 and is displayed with a gold frame and floated on linen with glass
