"We set up our painting gear on an early September Monday afternoon inside the the boundary of the Nature Conservancy's Pine Butte Preserve near a fen with a view of Ear Mountain. It was one of the last beautiful late summer days and a snow storm was due the next day. I began this painting while working with a group of students attending my painting workshop. I finished it later from a combination of memory and photographs which I shot during the afternoon."
